POST 13: EDUCATION DESIGN TRENDS

It seems that technology has taken over the education design as now one of the trends is personalized learning and that is made trough technology as it is easier to collect and organize data, nut also simplifies the customization of learning. It has already been some years, that the video killed the textbook as it offers a more entertaining way of learning. So for us, interior designers we should make the classroom flexible and adaptable to all those technological advances. Electrical data, lighting as well as appropriate furniture will help facilitate learning and enable interaction between students.

One thing that I have learned through my research on design for healthcare is that there are several strategies that we can do in the design of the room that can improve the patient's help and help that person recover. For example, we can reduce the patient's stress by having a single-bed patient room, having a window that views on nature or by hiding from the patient's view unappealing elements such as trash cans, soiled linen, sharps container, etc.. Of course there are more strategies to improve the patient's health as well as his or her satisfaction such as the presence of the clock in the room or access to music (with choice and volume control).

Simon Sinek's speech was very interesting and inspiring as everyone of us can learn from it and use it in every aspect of our life. He teaches us about what he calls the " Golden circle" which first start with "what", then "how", and finishes with "why". Most of us know what to do and how to do it, but to distinguish ourselves from others and achieve more in life, it would be great to find a purpose in life that would respond to: " Why do we do, what we do?" For interior designers, while designing, we need to come up with a design that responds to "why we have come up with this design and why it is the better option?" There needs to be purpose and meaning behind the design.
